Abstract

Self-confidence is a crucial psychological aspect in adolescent development, particularly for Generation Z who grow up in an era of rapid digitalization and intense social pressure. Exposure to social media, social comparison, and academic demands can negatively affect adolescents’ self-esteem and psychological well-being. This study aims to analyze and describe the role of counselors in restoring adolescents’ self-confidence based on Carl Rogers’ theory of self-truth. The research employs a literature review method by examining scholarly books, journal articles, and research reports related to adolescent self-confidence, counseling, and the person-centered approach. The findings indicate that counselors play a strategic role as facilitators of self-awareness, providers of emotional support, and motivators of positive change. Through the application of empathy, unconditional positive regard, and congruence, counselors assist adolescents in recognizing, accepting, and integrating their authentic self-values. The self-truth approach enables adolescents to develop more authentic and sustainable self-confidence grounded in honest and realistic self-understanding. This study concludes that counseling based on Carl Rogers’ humanistic perspective is relevant and effective in supporting the restoration of self-confidence among Generation Z adolescents and should be strengthened in guidance and counseling services within schools and community settings.
