Abstract

Changes in family dynamics in the modern era have led to a growing number of parental divorces, which significantly affect children’s emotional well-being. Children from broken home families are vulnerable to anxiety, depression, behavioral problems, and declining social and academic functioning due to the loss of emotional security and family stability. This study aims to describe the emotional and psychological conditions of children from broken homes, examine the effectiveness of client-centered therapy in supporting emotional recovery, and identify the collaborative roles of school counselors and pastoral counseling in assisting these children. This research employs a qualitative approach using a literature review method, analyzing relevant national and international scholarly sources through content analysis. The findings indicate that client-centered therapy is a relevant and effective humanistic approach, emphasizing empathy, unconditional positive regard, and children’s innate capacity for self-healing, particularly through child-centered play therapy. Emotional recovery is more optimal when psychological intervention is integrated with educational support and spiritual guidance. The synergy of these psychological, educational, and pastoral interventions forms a holistic support system that fosters resilience, self-confidence, meaning in life, and sustainable emotional well-being among children affected by broken homes.
