Abstract

This community service program aimed to provide mentoring support for the implementation of the sociodrama teaching method in order to enhance students’ learning interest in Christian Religious Education (CRE) at SDN No. 030313 Gunung Sitember, Dairi Regency. The initial situational analysis revealed low levels of learning interest, as indicated by students’ behaviors such as boredom, limited attention, talking with peers during lessons, and minimal engagement in classroom activities. The program was conducted using a participatory approach through community organizing, short-term teacher training, the classroom implementation of sociodrama-based CRE instruction, and joint evaluation and reflection with the assisted community. The mentoring results demonstrated positive changes in key indicators of learning interest, including improved attention, participation, interest, and enjoyment in learning. In addition, the program contributed to the development of an active learning culture, stronger peer collaboration, and the emergence of local leaders within student learning groups. Quantitatively, the findings support a strong influence of the sociodrama method on students’ learning interest, with a correlation coefficient of rxy = 0.862 and an explanatory contribution of 74.3%. Therefore, sociodrama is recommended as an active, contextual, and transformative pedagogical strategy for CRE instruction at the elementary school level.
