Pelatihan Kemampuan Literasi Sains dan Digital kepada Jemaat Gereja HKBP Bethesda Perumnas Mandala Medan

The rapid development of science and digital technology requires communities to possess adequate scientific literacy and digital literacy skills in order to critically and responsibly understand information. However, among the congregation of HKBP Bethesda Perumnas Mandala Medan, limitations were identified in understanding science-based information as well as low digital competence in using digital media wisely. This Community Service (PkM) activity aimed to improve the scientific literacy and digital literacy skills of the congregation through a participatory and contextual training and mentoring approach. The implementation method consisted of three stages: preparation, implementation, and evaluation, involving 20 congregation members as participants. Data were collected through pre-test and post-test questionnaires, observations, and participant response questionnaires. The results showed an improvement in participants’ understanding of basic scientific literacy concepts, their critical thinking skills toward circulating information, and their ability to use digital media ethically and responsibly. In addition, participants demonstrated active participation and positive responses throughout the activity. These findings indicate that community-based scientific and digital literacy training within a religious setting is effective in enhancing community literacy capacity. This program also highlights the strategic role of churches as partners in empowering congregations to adapt to the development of science and technology.
